Christmas Greetings on Day 15
Oh my, do we love getting Christmas cards in the mail! This year, especially, Parker has been so excited every time we bundle up to go out and get the mail...and, if I happen to get the mail without him...watch out! Every day I set the Christmas cards on Parker's table to open and he and Andrew 'ohhhh' and 'ahhhhh' over the family photos, beautiful colors and designs, and the awesome messages all of these cards share with us. Our card tree is quickly filling up and I am thinking next year I will try doing card garland instead!

A Diaper Box
When I was pregnant with Andrew and even the first few months after he was born, I had these daydreams about he and Parker playing and laughing and loving each other. I envisioned them playing outside, snuggling up watching movies together, playing games, being silly with each other, playing together in the playroom, doing crafts together....etc, etc.
And, now that they finally do this together....it's not always just like I envisioned it. Usually there is some fighting over who gets to play with the favorite toy in that moment...at least five times a day, we 'loose the sweet Parker' (as I like to joke with him) and he takes toys from Andrew...also at least five times a day, Andrew will hit Parker over the head with a hard, plastic toy...and, usually, this Momma, will loose her patience and tell the boys to go to their rooms and think about what they've just done.
It's moments like these that make our family a normal family. It allows our boys to learn about 'getting along' and it provides many learning opportunities (that's my nice way of saying discipline opportunities) for the little guys to learn the ways of life...like sharing...and not bonking each other on the head.
And, when I see something like this happening....
It makes me thankful for all of the other moments. Because without those crazy moments, this sweet one wouldn't seem quite as special as it truly is. Sweet brothers....playing together...even if it is a diaper box that brought them together.

Watching Movies on Day 14
Christmas Movies!
Right now I'm watching one of my favorite Christmas movies...Love Actually. Last night we watch National Lampoon Christmas Vacation and Elf.
And...every day (at least once a day) we watch Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas, Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas, and Mickey's House of Mouse...all Christmas movies that my kids love! I also LOVE The Holiday...and, of course, A Christmas Story.
What is it about Christmas movies? Do I love watching them because we only watch them once a year? Do I love watching them because we get to be all snuggled up in our warm jammies, drink some hot chocolate, have a fire in the fireplace, and snuggle up with the boys? I'm not sure why I love them so much, but every year I look forward to watching these old movies...movies that I've seen quite a few times, but year after year, they never get old.

Smooches on Day 13
Mistletoe
This year Parker has been asking and asking for a mistletoe. I'm not really sure how he came across this tradition, but I am glad that he did! We now have a mistletoe hanging in the kitchen. And, who you might ask, spends the most time in the kitchen? Me, of course! Needless to say, I've been getting tons of smooches from my boys! Although Parker acts like he doesn't want to smooch, we can usually get one outta him...and, my sweet Andrew...he gets so excited to see the mistletoe that he gives away smooches to everyone!
This morning Parker and I were at home alone....I went and stood under the mistletoe and waited and waited for my little man to notice where I was. When little man finally noticed, he looked at me with wide eyes and a silly grin and said, "Oh man, Mom, I wish Dad were here!" I asked Parker why he wished Dad was here and he said, "So he could kiss you!" Yes, Parker absolutely loves it when he catches me getting a smoochy from B. It's very sweet. Also, Parker ran and ran and ran from me when I tried to get one out of him that morning!

Day #12
There are so many wonderful things happening in our lives right now that are in the true spirit of Christmas...fellowship with our peers at work, walking around to take all of our neighbors goodies, church service that reminds us of why we celebrate Christmas and giving us a reminder not to 'loose' Christmas. I toyed with writing about all of these things.
I thought about writing about the adventures of Andrew and Parker as they are on Christmas break...spending time with grandparents, aunts, and cousins. (I will probably still write about this at some point in our Celebration of Christmas).
But, as I thought about today, December 12, 2011....this is what I will remember about today:
Three rolls of tape. Six rolls of wrapping paper. Three Christmas movies. And, five hours of my time....all spent wrapping up gifts for our family and friends.
When it comes to wrapping gifts, I am a little bit of a control freak (suprised?) and the moment I knew P and A were spending the night with grandma and grandpa, I set out to wrap all of our Christmas gifts! Brandon kept offering to help...but did I let him? No way! I picked out most (all) of these gifts, so by golly, I am going to wrap them all in my perfectionist, too much tape, fashion! (Don't worry, Brandon watched movies with me for five hours...and did the dishes and put some laundry away.)
So, Day #12 in our celebration of Christmas is, as I like to say, wrapped up!
There's nothing better than a Christmas tree with beautifully wrapped gifts underneath!

On the 10th and 11th Day...
December 10th
Christmas Shopping Date
It's a tradition I'll never give up. Every year since we've been married, Brandon and I pick a date in December to do a little Christmas shopping together. Now, don't get me wrong....Brandon is a normal guy when it comes to Christmas. Every year his little tradition is to wait until December 23rd to get his shopping done...and for a lot of the people we buy gifts for, he is just as surprised as they are on Christmas to see their gifts...but, this Christmas Shopping Date we have goin' on, it's fun (even if B doesn't pay much attention to the shopping part).
This year we ate dinner, did a little shopping, and then headed to a movie...and in my book, it doesn't get much better than that!

Christmas Treats!
As we get closer and closer to the big day, I get a little excited about eating Christmas treats. I love it all- chocolate covered pretzels, sugar cookies with frosting, peanut butter blossoms...well, you get the picture! But, as Parker has gotten older and Andrew now has his own tastes, my Christmas treats have changed a little to what these little guys love to eat. Today, the boys and I declared it a Christmas treat day! We made a little of this and a little of that, without a plan in mind, but mmmmm, are these treats delicious!
And, the best part about making all of these goodies?? Sharing them with our friends tomorrow!!
