United States Trivia

Parker is such a verbal little guy and everyday he says something that makes me laugh, feel very special, or just wonder...where in the world did he come up with that?! So....I'm going to try to post something everyday that shows just how smart and funny our little (big) guy is!

Last night...we were heading out to swimming lessons and I asked Parker to put his flip flops on. He said: "No, mom, I can't wear those, they are stickey." So I told him: "Okay, wear your other flip flops and I'll wash those in the sink when we get home." Parker replied: "No mom, we will wash them in Washington and Louisiana is shaped like a boot!" For those of you that know Parker's different tones of voice...this was in his "geez mom, don't you know anything" voice! LOL!

I don't know what it is about the US states and the puzzle that we borrowed from Grandma Robbie....or what Brandon is teaching Parker about the states...but, he says the funniest stuff about the states! For example: Parker asked Brandon: "Which one is this?" Brandon told him: "That one is called Montana." Parker said, matter of factly: "Oh yeah, that is where Mom lives...in Momtana!"

Day 1 at Summer Camp at Grandma's

Summer Time!!!

It is officially summer at the Riffel house! Parker is on summer vacation with Aunt Dani coming over everyday and his buddy Anthony...swimming lessons started this week....and tonight summer camp at Grandma Robbie's Farm starts! It is also probably the hottest week of the year!! Parker is having so much fun with his Aunt Dani- everyday when she gets there, he does a little happy dance and runs to the door! We are so thankful for Aunt Dani and the time she is putting in with Parker and his friend Anthony!! I got to stay home with all of them on Monday, just to make sure everything would go okay, and needless to say, I was exhausted after one day of watching two toddlers....making sure they both go to the bathroom....eat their lunch...don't fight...clean up their messes....take a nap...play outside...swim in the pool...play in the sprinkler...go to swimming lessons! Summer days are full of fun and are good at wearing the little guys (and Mom and Aunt Dani) out!

The best part about this summer is that Parker is almost completely potty trained...a milestone that I thought would never get here!! He still needs some help with going "number two", but he is doing great and we are so proud of him!

Pregnancy Update: Last Thursday marked the last day of my first trimester and it was like magic- I am no longer feeling as icky as I have been!! That will make for a much more enjoyable summer! In about 5 weeks, we'll be able to find out if we'll be buying blue or pink...we are very excited...mostly because then Parker will know if it's a baby sister or a baby brother!

Brandon and I are so blessed to have jobs that allow us some flexibility- more so in the summer months- with swimming lessons, camping, playing outside, and much needed vacation- we have a summer full of good friends, family, fun, and relaxation! Parker is becomming such a big boy and is growing everyday- we love being able to spend so much time with him...the best part of my day is when I come home and he says, "Mom, I'm so glad you're here!" :)

Gooood meatloaf!

All this needs is a chutney!

I can't believe Brandon put a picture of our dinner on the blog...although it was the best meatloaf we've ever had! :) This picture doesn't do it justice! LOL! It was easy- crockpot meatloaf....and what a coinscidence that Brandon mentions chutney (one of Martha Renicker's specialties) because this is a recipe from a cookbook that she gave me! :) This meatloaf is dedicated to Martha...we love you and miss you!

Practicing his casting

Parker got a new Cars fishing pole for the lake.

December, 10, 2010

We had our second doctor's appointment yesterday and found out that Parker's brother or sister will be born on December 10, 2010! Because my ultra-sound showed the baby being bigger, Dr. Sinclair decided to move our due date up. We also had the chance to hear the baby's heartbeat at this appointment- that was such a fun moment! I've decided I am going to do all of my Christmas shopping in October, so send me your lists early this year...and don't get too disappointed if every gift is wrapped with a gift bag! The surprising part about this appointment was that I've lost a few pounds since the last appointment. I think the morning, noon, and night sickness I've been experiencing has taken its toll! As long as the baby is healthy, I don't think it will hurt me to loose a couple of pounds. :)

Pool buddies

Parker and Julian in the pool. We decided that the Little Tikes slide
was more sturdy than the inflatable one that came with the pool.

Relay for Life

The Riffel Family made it to Relay for Life tonight to help our team "Team Hope" walk for a couple of hours. Parker loved seeing all of the people and walking around the track. He also got to decorate the luminary bags with Grandma Robbie, which gave us one more way to honor and remember our loved ones who have or had cancer. The theme was "FIGHT IT" and while they were taking a group shot (of the over 500 people in attendance), Parker yelled out, "Fight it!" An amazing night for an amazing cause.

2 hours into the Relay.

Summer Time!

It's gettin hot in here! This week it seemed like summer hit us full force in Kansas!! We love this time of year because it means grilling out, swimming, going to the lake, going to Colorado, and days full of family and friends. We've had a busy month- May was packed full of graduations- congrats to Jon and Lauryn for entering the college world!! We also had time to do our annual camping trip over Memorial Day weekend and visit the cemetary in Council Grove with Grandma Elaine...this time we documented some of my family's history and realized that we were there with 4 generations of my family (Parker, myself, my mom, and my grandma) and there are 5 more generations buried at that cemetary. I think that is a tradition we will try to carry out every Memorial Day! As Parker said, "Mom, there are no toys here, but there are a lot of rocks!"

This past week Parker had some ups and downs- on Tuesday at daycare he was stung by a wasp on his head, right behind his ear. Luckily he is not allergic to them and by the time I picked him up later that day, I couldn't find the spot...although I'm sure it still hurt...he was a very brave little guy. That day I decided to get his swimming pool for this summer- as a treat (even though I was planning on getting it anyway). As you can see from the photo below...he loves it and we ended up having a pool party with the neighbor boys last night!!

This is sure to be a GREAT summer for the Riffel family. With 10 little boys (ranging from newborn to 8 years) living on our block, Parker is going to have fun playing outside in the evenings, while we get to hang out with some good friends! Parker also gets to go have his Aunt Dani come play with him for 8 weeks this summer!! He talks about it everyday and he says, "Mom, Aunt Dani will be here in just a few minutes." When I tell him that it's still a couple of weeks away, he tells me I'm wrong. He is excited! That same week, Parker will start swimming lessons and because of his love of the water, I know he'll excel at it!

Next weekend we get to go to the lake with our Woolery and Beadle friends- It is always a good time...and we're hoping to make it down a few weekends this year to relax and see good friends!!

Parker will also be attending Camp at Grandma's this year in late-June with ALL of his cousins! He loves anything outside and Cooper, Cameron, Morgan, Avery, and Parker are going to have so much fun at the farm.

In July we get to watch Morgan and Avery for three nights and Parker is already talking about that too!! He loves those girls and can't wait to have them come over and have a sleepover at his house. :) The weekend after that we'll head out to Colorado to visit Poppy and do a little camping (in a cabin) in Estes Park! We'll see how a pregnant lady handles this camping with a two year old who is in the middle of potty training! LOL!

We have a busy summer ahead, but it will be fun! Parker has been labled the "talking toddler" at daycare because of his ability to talk and talk and talk...he is an excellent story teller and I love to listen to his tales of his day as we're driving home at the end of the day. As you all know, he gets that from his dad!!! :)

Brandon and I will update this as we get through the summer and I hope we see everyone at some point this summer!!
